With the UK Government announcing that every Briton over the age of 70, or with underlying medical conditions, must self-isolate at home for 12 weeks, there has never been a more important time to make sure that your loved ones are safe when that time comes.
With the spread of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, now inevitable, the Government Health Secretary Matt Hancock warns that “every single person in this country is going to be affected,” and further states that the period of isolation will last for “a very long time.” Time is of the essence to have everything in place in the home that your loved one will need.
If your loved one does not currently have a personal alarm at home, then now is the time to give serious thought to getting one in place.
Personal alarms provide significantly increased safety for your loved one whilst isolated at home. With a personal alarm, help is available to them at the touch of a button, and the emergency services can be on the way within a matter of minutes. In addition to the safety benefits provided by having an alarm service in place, both you and your loved ones will have peace of mind that they can get help when needed. This can help them feel less isolated, and more connected to the outside world. This in turn will improve quality of life, and make the period of isolation feel more manageable.
With the health impacts of the coronavirus being very serious (and potentially fatal) for those over the age of 70, or with underlying medical conditions such as a heart condition, diabetes, COPD and asthma (to name just a few), having an alarm during this pandemic is more important than ever. Respiratory problems are one of the main concerns for those in high risk groups, and the effects can be life threatening. If your loved one develops symptoms while at home, their personal alarm will allow them to call for help if their symptoms escalate quickly, or lead to other issues such having a fall after becoming weak or dizzy.
