Emergency Button for the Elderly - How it works

Wearing a device with an emergency button means that help is quite literally at your fingertips, but how does it work?

Depending on your selected model, your one-touch alarm will connect through your landline, using mobile signal or digitally and call for help. A mobile signal connected alarm will allow you to speak directly into the device, or for those which are connected via a landline or the internet – a base unit will be set up in your home. You can then speak directly to someone at the other end to explain what’s happening and get the help you need.

You can choose between having a family monitored alarm – which will call nominated family members when you press the button, or our 24/7 monitoring service will connect you with our expert help centre.

An elderly alarm is one of the best tools to help yourself or a loved one to retain independence. Simply knowing that help is available at the touch of a button gives back the confidence to undertake daily activities without worry, allowing you to get on with life and keep doing the things you enjoy.

Protection – Why Choose a One Touch Alarm

The key benefit of a one-touch personal alarm is reliability. Unlike other methods of summoning help in an emergency, a pendant or wrist worn device is always close to hand.

If a fall or accident occurs, it’s not always the case that a landline or mobile phone is within easy reach, and for those who may be unwell or confused, finding the right contact, or remembering a phone number may be impossible.

SureSafe personal alarms feature a large SOS button, which triggers with just one touch.

All of our alarms are comfortable and easy to wear – and most are showerproof – meaning that you are protected in what is one of the most common rooms in the home to fall – the bathroom.

Additionally, many of our elderly alarms work using mobile signal, so also connect outside of the home, giving you freedom and security wherever you are.

Not only will an elderly emergency button provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones, but in the event of an emergency, if you get help quickly by pressing the panic button, you are more likely to make a full recovery.

Having a personal alarm doesn’t only benefit you if you have an accident, it can also be incredibly helpful for other conditions. For example, a person suffering from epilepsy or seizures can be at serious risk of injury following a fall, or those living with dementia can lose their bearings when away from home. A one-touch personal alarm can be a blessing to someone who needs help in an emergency.

Additionally, with an increasing number of lone workers in recent years, many employers are now offering their remote workers one-touch personal alarms to ensure they are safe.

The benefits of a one-touch personal alarm

A one-touch personal alarm comes with a wealth of benefits which include;

  • Easily accessible and wearable emergency button
  • Simple to use
  • Showerproof wristband or pendant – the highest risk place for a fall
  • No need to try to get up or find your way to the phone to get help
  • Gives you the confidence to get on with daily life
  • Allows you to get hold of your contacts without needing a phone
  • Get the help you need quickly when you need it

Being left alone for more than an hour after an accident can lead to a number of further injuries or health conditions, such as dehydration or hypothermia. In the event of a heart attack or a stroke, getting to the hospital quickly is vital – it can mean the difference between life or death. Being able to press the emergency elderly alarm button can make all the difference to your recovery.

Elderly call for help button

For the elderly or those who suffer from a long-term health condition, a one-touch personal alarm can make all the difference in an emergency. Personal alarms have been proven to reduce the time it takes for people to receive medical attention and are invaluable in the event of a fall, stroke, heart attack or seizure.

Our personal alarms are designed to give you the freedom to live your life independently, safe in the knowledge that you can always get help at the touch of a button should you suddenly feel unwell, have a trip or fall or any other type of emergency.

A selection of our one-touch personal alarms are also equipped with automatic fall detection, meaning that if the alarm detects a fall, you do not need to press the SOS button to get help. In 80% of falls, fast action will mean a better chance of survival and a quicker return to independence.

Our one-touch personal alarms with fall detection:

If you’re considering a one-touch personal alarm for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s, it can be reassuring for you and your loved ones to wear an alarm equipped with GPS tracking. This will let people know where you are when you need help anytime the SOS button is pressed or a fall is detected.

A clever product supported by excellent sales and customer service. We purchased the SureSafe Go for my Mum. Initial enquiry feedback, the sale and post sale customer service have all been superb. There was one slight glitch with a confirmation email not being received. This was not the fault of SureSafe and was quickly rectified by resending the email. The product has given my Mum a feeling of increased independence and peace of mind for her family.

So far so good! I picked up the phone and spoke to John as I wanted to double check this was the right alarm for my father. Clear, helpful information. Best thing about this alarm is you speak directly into the neck piece, not a base station. Perfect! Does everything we need. Only just started using it so can’t verify the 24/7 assistance but fingers crossed- we have peace of mind to leave my father for short periods knowing he has immediate help should he need it.
